Sometimes, I wish I were black.
I’m not joking! I mean sure, I suppose you would have to deal with a racist comment here and there, but considering that I live in Chicago, I wouldn’t be too worried. Today one of my professors was sharing one of her college experiences at… Stanford University. Yes, Stanford. She is a great professor, and I don’t mean to undermine her intelligence or anything, but I couldn’t help but wonder, did she get in because of her race or her grades? A Hispanic girl I went to high school with got a really good scholarship to Northwestern University. Her grades were a little above average, I would say her ACT score was definitely below the Northwestern incoming class’s average, but it’s a little obnoxious knowing that she was rewarded because of her race. She was a Mexican girl that tried a little harder than every other Mexican. Hooray.
I suppose the only reason I’m complaining is because even though I’m not Caucasian, I wasn’t given any sort of preference when I was considered for College. I know this because so many freakin Desis go to college; universities aren’t begging for more.

Well, to make things worse, I heard that my OWN school is changing the acceptance policy next year. They’re actually going to be rejecting more females than males (around 2:1) due to the completely unequal ratio. I think right now, the statistic is 70% females, 30% males, or something of that nature. In my Psych class, there are 50 students, and only 4 of them are boys. It’s quite pathetic, but I haven’t heard them complaining.
